- There was a man living with his mother long ago. He was a great gambler. He was one night going home from card playing. He met a man, with a table, candle and deck of cards, who asked him would he have a game. He said he would. The man said he'd play him for himself. He refused, but said he'd play him for any money. The devil took out a gold watch and left it against his £. The boy won the game and got the watch. As he was dealing the cards, one card fell on the ground. When he went to take it up he saw the devil's cloven foot. When he saw that he said he'd have no more to do with him, and he threw back the watch. He lost his mother and he threw all his gambling money in the river. He was then poor.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
