  1. The Coming of the French to Kilcummin August 1798.
    - Humbert's Stone. -
It was a bright harvest morning when the people of Kilcummin first caught sight of the French ships in Killala bay. Many of the people around were ignorant of the happening in other areas. At that time the Protestants represented to them the sole source of protection and the people of the Kilcummin district immediately took shelter with the Robinson of Banagher, the Palmers of Summerhill, and the Knox's of Palmers town.
