Gearrán Bán or the white horse is a large rock resting on the hillside in Ballinglen. Tradition had it that it was St. Patrick who threw this rock from Néifinn Mountain. St. Patrick intended to throw it to Down Patrick head but it slipped from his hand and rested on the hillside of Ballinglen.
The reason that he threw this rock was to banish all the serpents out of Ireland . He had them all banished but one particularly large one that went back under this large rock on Neifinn Mountain. Now the only way he had to get this serpent out was, to throw the rock out into the Sea.
