  1. In former times there were at least two Shoemakers in every village but machine made shoes put them out of trade. We still have the name of a shoe maker here and there but they do repairs for the most part and make occasional pairs of boots, as the old men wouldn't think of buying ready made boots. In the old days the shoe makers were called "Gracys" "Gracy Bawn" (A fair man with white flowing beard.)
    The families were called the Mangan's or "Joyces or "McLoughlins" Usually these men were great patriots and sang as they worked - (The rising of the moon) -
