- Long ago priests were forbidden to read mass or perform any sacred duties. A great many of them were put to death when they were found reading mass. They used to have Mass in caves and away out in the mountains. A great many people would gather and join in the prayers. Always some person would have to watch in case the soldiers came. Glenlossera is supposed to have got its name from that time. It is said a priest was reading Mass on a rock there on a very stormy night and that the candles stayed lighted all the time.
