companion and I thought little of the incident at the time, when we parted company a mile farther on we got very nervous until we reached home.
About a month later my companion's brother was coming from Belmullet with a car load of timber and slates and passed by the same place at about the same hour - 3 or 5 o'clock.
As he passed the cross a man walked out from it across the road exactly as happened to us. He didn't reply when the cartman bid him "Goodnight".
We hadn't mentioned our own experience to anybody but my companion's brother described the dress exactly as we ourselves had noted it.
It may have been coincidence that somebody happened to be beside the cross at such an unearthly hour on both occasions. I never heard of anybody else ever seeing anything strange about this particular place.
