He looked around and could not see anyone. After great struggling he got it on his back and started for home across fields so as to avoid meeting anyone. When he came to the wall that divides our village and another he became very nervous so he lit his pipe and rested.
When he started to cross the wall the load was pulled back and the pipe quenched. He could not see anyone about and he was puzzled to know what to do.
He had not much time for thinking. So he tumbled the load over first and then he came over himself. He was very daring and he wanted the rushes at all risk.
He got home alright that night but when he got up in the morning he could not find a bit of the rushes so he had his daring experience for nothing and he did not try to steal anymore.
