  1. When a hen comes into a house with a straw on her tail it is the sign of a funeral.
    When a hare crosses the road before a person it is a sign of bad luck and people usually turn home when on long journey.
    When a coal falls from the fire it is the sign of a stranger coming to the house.
    Two hens fighting are also the sign of a stranger coming.
    On their way to a fair or on other business if people met a red-haired woman they usually turned back as it is said to be unlucky.
