  1. It was an old custom in this district to make Flummery. It was said to that it was a very wholesome and palatable food.
    For this food some crushed oats was put into a vessel and covered with water and left in the vessel until sour. Then the juice was strained from the seeds. This was done by taking the steeped seeds and squeezing them tightly between the hands until all the moisture was taken out of them.
    Then they strained it through a homemade strainer which was made of wisps of straw woven closely together.
