  1. When throwiong out dirty water after nightfall people say -: "Thugab, thugab, thugab, tá an uisce salach, má bhfuil sibh ann, fágaibh sibh an bealach."
    It is an old custom in this district not to throw out dirty water or ashes on New Year's Day, for if anyone does so it is said he is throwing his luck away for the year.
    Old people around here say that if you break a mirror you will have seven years bad luck.
    If a cock comes into the house and crows it is a sign of a scattering in the house-hold.
    If a cock crows three times at midnight it is a sign that someone is going to die in the neighbourhood.
