- Many of us wonder how people got their clothes clean before they came to know the use of soap.
The people in this district washed their clothes snow-white without the aid of soap. They steeped their clothes which were to be washed in a tub of rain-water for a few days. After this the garments were wrung out of a tub and boiled for about ten minutes in a pot of water. Then the pot was taken off the fire and the clothes were lifted into a vessel, and when cool were thoroughly washed by pounding them with a wooden block called a "túirnin".(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
