  1. About fifty years ago, this ship called the "Rose" was trading between Ballina and Liverpool.
    On a Sunday night in January, she left Liverpool for Ballina with a heavy cargo on. She met with a fierce storm, and is supposed to have been sunk at the Isle of Man with all hands.
    Her crew were all Irish men from Ballina quay, namely, Pat Carney, Jack Hennigan, Stephen Walsh.
    They left widows and orphans. Mrs. hennigan was expecting her husband's vessel to land, every minute.
    She went tot he door on this occasion to look down the river and she thought she saw the ship coming up the river with all the lights on.
    She returned in and closed the door to prepare the supper.
    A few minutes later she heard footsteps comign towards the house, and a knock at the door.
    She ran and opened it and there was no one there. This occured at the time the boat wen down at the Isle of Man.
    The skipper of the "Rose" was the famous Captain
