    Nicknames were very common in this district in olden times. Nearly every person in the district had one. They were never called by their christian names but by the nicknames that were on them. Mrs. Morley the storyteller told me the nicknames that were on the people of Curryane Swinford. The occupations of the people nicknamed are farmers and farmers wives' They are as follows.
    Pat Henry. (Tapsey) So called because he worked for a firm in England and the head man was named Tapsey Higgins.
    James McGourn..(Fairy) So called because he is supposed to see the fairies every November's night.
    John Campbell (Goggan) So called because he took this name in Confirmation
