- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Shrove Tuesday used to be the last day for getting married before Lent. It is unlucky to get married in Lent, for it is regarded as a time of penance and fasting. On the 1st of May green branches are hung in front of the trains and on the horses' heads, in order to welcome the Summer. St. John's night occurs on the 24th of June. The children gather together in each village and light huge bonfires.
