  1. There was an old school in Altinea. A man of the name of McManus was teaching in it for about seven years. My Grandfather went to school there. The pay the teacher used to get was each pupil would bring him one penny a week but the teacher left the school and went away. The school is now used as an old barn. It belongs to a man of the name Michael Clarke. There is an old stone in the wall and the year it was built is carved on the stone. It was built in 1870.
