When a person got a toothache a Sacred-Heart picture was placed on the affected part and the following prayer was said:-

"Dia i do croidhe
Dia i do inntinn,
Go bhfágaidh do an pían
I bhfad i do dhiaidh."
"Muchta, Muchta,
Tabhar leat na leicneac"
This was sung when a person suffered from mumps. An asse's collar was put round the sufferer's neck. Then he was led out to the pig-sty and brought round it three times, the above words being said each time. The pigs were supposed to take the mumps off the collar which was left hanging in the sty for a night.
