    The crafts that were carried on in this district in the former times were, spinning, weaving, forge work, wood work, dying and the tanning of leather.
    There was a forge in this district long ago. A man named Mr. Thady Glavey of Urlar worked in the forge. He made horse shoes, horse nails, spades, toys, fire cranes, gates, pot holders and also ploughs and harrows. The iron that was used in the forge was got in Cloon Iron. It was got in large stones and those stones were carried to Kilkelly. There was a furnace in Kilkelly and the stones were put into the furnace and the iron was melted. There was a hole in the bottom of the furnace and when the iron was melted it went out in the hole and when the iron was cooled it was brought to the forge.
