- The Irish people long ago had great superstitions when they had toothaches, headaches and other such pains. They went to be cured by a person who had a charm for doing so. Each charmer could only cure one particular pain.
When they had a headache they went to the charmer. The charmer first put them down on their knees and to say a prayer such as "God direct us to the best". Then he measured the length and breadth of his or her head. He would say then the head was a bit opened. Next the Cross of Christ was put on his or her forehead.
