Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The oaten bread was made of ground oats, milk, and salt.
When they were baking the oaten bread they took all the fire out on the heart. Then they put a few cabbage leaves over the coals. After that they put the oaten bread on the cabbage and a few more cabbage leaves over the cake.
Lastly they put coals over the cabbage leaves. It is said that the oaten bread was very sweet. People going to America always took oaten bread with them, as it was said to save them from sea sickness.
This is rhyme about the different breads.
Barley bread will do you good,
Rye bread will do you no harm,
    Wheaten bread sweetens the blood,
    Oaten bread strengthens the arm.
