  1. Most people up to the present day believe in fairies. fairies have magic powers and long ago, they used to do a lot of harm to people. Even now-a-days the people do things to keep in good terms with the fairies. For instance, they do not throw out water after twelve o'clock in the night time, so as not to wet them. They do not leave clothes drying by the fire on a Saturday night.
There is a lisheen about a quarter of a mile from my village, and it has a great name for fairies. One night Thomas O'Neill's father was passing that lisheen, a small little man came out before him, and it was supposed he was a leprechaun. The man gave him a kick, and hurt his foot, and it never cured until he went to Lough Dearg on a pilgrimage.
There is a Dun in that lisheen also, and it is supposed a lot of fairies dwell there. One night my grandfather was passing it, he saw a lot of fairies in the Dun, some of them were dancing and more of them were playing music. He watched them for a good while, and at last, they went away, and went under the big hills.
