- The Potato Crop
We sow potatoes on our farm and each year we sow about an acre and a half. We only sow that amount every year.
My father and brother prepare the ground. The people do not manure the ground until they have the drills opened. We always sow our potatoes in drills.
When people have ridges they sow them with spades, but we always sow our potatoes with a plough. The farmers do not make spades. They are manufactured in Castlebar and sold in shops and people buy them. When people are preparing land for potatoes, they first plough it, and grub it. Then they opened the drills, put out manure, leave slits and close the drills.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
