The cows are mostly tied by a chain. Some time ago they were tied by a "cannaisg" (made from straw) which was first passed through a "lorgnán". It had an eye on one end and a knot on the other. When they are cross in the field they put a (tring) tying on them called a "side-lang". The names the cows have are Polly, Daisy, Pansy, Strawberry, Darkie, and Pixie. Some people hang a horse-shoe in the stable. Some people do not give away milk on May Day. Others do, but they put a small drop of water in it before giving it away.
