- One night as we sat by the fire my father told me how my village Backfox or [?] got its name.Long ago the chieftains used to catch foxes and tame them, and then let them go wild again and hunt for pleasure and to train their hounds.There is a place called [?] where caves were made by the priests to hide during the Penal Days.These are the ruins of an old Church still to be seen where Mass was said during the Penal Days and near it there is a high hill called [?] where some of the people kept watch for fear of the English soldiers while the priest was reading Mass.There is also the track of a kiln where "poteen" was made long ago.A river runs by the side of the village and there is a well on its bank called [?] where St. Patrick baptized the people, and the track of his knees is on a big stone(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
