- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Day or "la Nodhlagh na mban" as it is sometimes called. In this locality long ago mostly all marriages were arranged during Shrove and the parties were married after Lent. The Sunday following Shrove Tuesday was called "Oomhnace na bsug" because the young girls whose marriages were not arranged were supposed to be vexed and wear a puss.St. Martin's Day.
We have St. Martins day on the [?]th November. Blood is split in honour of him. A day or two before his feastday each housekeeper kills a fowl she carries it head downwards to the four corners of the house so that some of the drops of blood may fall in these corners. She carries the fowl from opposite corners so as to form a cross. On St. Martin's day all cornmills cease work as a man in forlough (Mr John Flynn) where there is a corn-mill told us that St. Martin was drowned in a mill dam.- Bailitheoir
