There is an altar in the graveyard and under it. Father Cannon is buried. His grave is supposed to be the oldest in the graveyard. It dates back to 150 years. There are other graves and the dates on them are, 1805, 1815, 1860, 1876 etc.
Grandma says as long as she remembers hearing stories "she never heard of people being buried in the ruins or of disused graves being used in the district.
The old people say that if a person falls in the graveveyard he will be the next to be buried there.
The graveyards in which unbaptized children were buried were called "Cillens" There is a "Cillen" on the Kiltimagh road and it is surrounded be trees. Where the branches divides themselves from the trunk of the tree there is a spring well which is never dry even in the warm summer weather.
