Ar an leathanach seo

  1. This is a large village consisting of seventeen houses. It is situated along a by-road that goes through the village. It is divided into two parts, Cunnagher North, and Cunnagher South.
The land is fairly good, but the bog is inconvenient, and there are scarcely any trees, but there is a lot of brush-wood. The name Cunnagher is either from “Coinneacar” [Coinicéir?] a rabbit warren and there are a lot of rabbits there, or from coinne [connadh?] meaning fire wood, there is a lot of brushwood, hazel bushes etc in the place, and very likely it got its name from it.
The sirnames in the village are Carneys (5) Devaney (2) Morrison (2) Jordan (1) Deasy (1) Rockett (1) Philbin (1) Moran (1) Kearins (1) McNeela (1) McDonnell (1).
There is a big rock in the centre of the village, and it is said when St. Patrick was in Ireland, he prayed on this rock and the track of his knees are there since.
