- At ten oclock the wake begins, It is generally young people that attend the wake. It is very seldom the old people go to the wake, as they attend the corpse house during the day.
There are five candles lighted on a little table at the side of the bed, and there is an other little table with tobacco and pipes, for the people of the wake.
When they, that go to the wake, go into the house they go over to the bed, kneel down, and say prayers for the repose of the soul. Then they take a seat, and they are handed a pipe, tobacco, matches, and some snuff.
The wake is over at about three or four oclock in the morning. All of them go home except the friends and neighbours, and the I people of the house. They used to play a lot of tricks at the wakes years ago, but they do not do so now.- Bailitheoir
