- Up to 1840 they were all Protestants in Dernadira and Raheenear. A Catholic named Conway came from Eris. He got to know Ormboy, Lord Lucan's agent. He paid about £20 for a small holding in Dernadira. The Presbyterians kicked up an awful row and went to Lord Lucan to stop a Catholic from coming in amongst them. However Ormboy settled the matter by agreeing to let him keep his holding provided that he could build a house better than any Presbyterian. He did so and that was the first Catholic family to settle down in Dernadira. There was a nest of Presbyterians there and the village was called the town and had a Presbyterian school. Some of the Presbyterians became converted but others went back to Antrim. There are only a few Presbyterian families(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
