  1. In County Wexford it is a custom amongst the people to "visit their dead" once a year. They do this by visiting the graveyard in which their friends are laid to rest once every year. When they visit the graveyard they cut of the long grass off the graves (each one trimming the grave of his own people). When the graves are trimmed off nicely, fresh flowers are laid on the graves, sometimes in little glass jars half filled of water in order to preserve the flowers for as long a period as possible from withering.
    The cleaning of the graves is generally performed on the day before the pattern. People always bring holy water with them and shake it on the graves, and pray for about an hour o'er the graves.
