There were many beggars living in Shrule once. At the top of the town they all used to live and that place was once called "Tinker Lane" because of all the tinkers who lived there. There was an old woman living there by the name of Breedeen Carty. She had an old house in it but she was very poor and she used to have hardly enough to eat. When she got old she used not go out much. One day no one noticed her out and the next day no one saw her out either. Men went into the old house that evening and they found her dead. Other tinkers who lived in Shrule were "Máire Beag", Pat Mohon, Mike Lavelle, and Dick Reilly. The most of those used to work with tin. They all left Shrule after that.
