  1. 1. On Christmas Eve in this area it is a custom to get an old turnip, cut off the bottom and top and put a small hole in the top in which a candle would fit. Then they decorate it with holly, ivy, and coloured paper, and put the candle burning in it in the the window. This is in honor of Our Lord's coming to earth.
    When the windows are lighted, decorations are put on the walls of the house, such as holly, Ivy and laurel leaves. The first deed at the Christmas
