  1. Bread in this area about 60 years ago was made on a griddle. This was not flour bread, but ground wheaten meal. This was very hard to knead and put together. When this was baked it was just as hard to eat. This bread was not eaten for three meals as the porridge was for breakfast.
    The person who was making the cake put a cross on the cake to keep it from breaking.
