  1. Long ago when there were but a few national schools, there used teachers go around to old houses teaching. There was an old hedge school in Canthee, but I do not know who was teaching there. There was also an old hedge school in Noughaville. The name of the man that was teaching there was, Gardener, O'Loughlan and Corry were also teaching there. They were teaching there for about two years. The teacher of Carron school was jealous because Gardener was left there so long. One night he got the school burned. Next day he came to open the school it was all burned.
