  1. The best known mower in this parish was John Mc Allen who mowed two acres in one day and it would take four men to do it now. He lived in Gortaveha. Another good worker was Stephen Mc Namara who lived in Curraclun & he dug a road of "lawn" in one day that four men would not do it now.
    Michael Broderick was the best man in this parish to cut turf, he could cut cut three sods of turf and have the last sod on the bank the first.
