Hedge Schools
There were no schools in Ireland in olden and the children had to go miles to be taught because there were no schools near where they lived and they were glad to get the opportunity to be taught. There were no schools like nowadays and they used to sit on sods of turf for seats.
Thy had no books and very few teachers and the parents used to give sixpence a week as the teachers used not get paid as they do nowadays and the children had also to bring them their lunch.
