- Hedge Schools.
The schools that were in Ireland long ago were called hedge schools and the children had to go miles to be taught. They had no schools or convents like nowadays. They had to bring two sods of turf for seats. They had few teachers no books and the children were glad t be taught. The teachers used not get paid like now. The children used to bring a shilling a week and used to buy their lunch wit it people used to board the teachers for to teach their children. hey had no boarded floors but clay ones.
