    Long ago there were no Doctors. People cured their ailments by herbs. They used to cure Stys by getting ten gooseberry thorns and pointing them to the Sty and making the Sign of the Cross. They used to cure a Nose Bleed by getting a piece of red woollen thread and tying it on the little finger. The cure for a Headache was vinegar. The cure for Boils was soft soap and sugar mixed into a past and applied to the Boil. The Mumps were cured by plant called gladom. Teeth ache were
