    Hedge Schools.
    In olden there were no schools and the teachers had to walk nine or ten miles every day to teach the children. They had to be taught out in the open air and in barns. There was an old school in Caltraduff in John Kean's barn, in the middle of fourteen acres of bushes. It was a small plain thatched house and the ruins are to be seen yet.
