  1. The schools that were in Ireland long ago were called hedge schools. The children had to bring two sods of turf for seats. They had no boarded floors but clay ones. There were no trained teachers, no books, and the children were glad to be taught anything. The teachers used not get paid like now. The children used to bring a shilling a week and the teachers used to buy their lunch with it. The
