- In ancient times there were no doctors or nurses, or Chemist Shops, and people cured their own ailments with herbs or plants. But nowadays nearly all those customs are forgotten.
There was an old cure for yellow-jaundice. It was to get nine or ten small red worms and put them into a saucepan with a pint of fresh milk and boil for twenty minutes, then it is strained and the milk is put into a bottle and two tablespoonfuls are given to the invalid every morning until he is cured.
Mumps were cured by a plant known as Gladdom. It is a long narrow leaf much the same shape as(continues on next page)
