  1. On the eight of July in the year 1900 a party of six people went in a pleasure trip in a small boat in Ballyheigue Bay. The day was very fine and the water was smooth and calm, so much so that the occupants of the boat felt as safe as if they were in dry land. After about half an hour's sail from the slip attached to the Coast Guard's Station, the boat got capsized and as a result four of the six on board were drowned
