- My grandmother has a churn and it is using yet. It is about three feet and a half high. It is wider in the bottom than at the top. The dasher is made in the shape of a cross and the handle attached to it. This handle goes through a hole in the cover and it is used by beating it up and down to make the butter. If a stranger came in during the churning he would have to help in the work or they could not make the butter. No one was allowed to take out a coal of fire during churning or the butter would be stolen. The butter takes about an hour in summer and(continues on next page)
