- (continued from previous page)to do the churning. In this district the butter was made by hand and the staff was always moved from side to side. Water is always poured in during the making of the butter to wash down the cream. When the butter was made it was taken out with the hand and put into a basin and was washed and salted before used. The buttermilk was used for drinking, but was rarely given to animals.
