Long ago the people used dance round the May-tree, and many people would not give away milk, and it is said that if you wash your hands in the dew on May Morning before sunrise you will be able to rip any kind of knot until May-Day again.
    St John's Day. There is a custom kept since olden times of lighting a fire in honour of St John. The old people believed that if they kindled their fires with the remains of the bonfires they would have luck for the year.
    Feast of the Assumption (15 Aug.) is a patron day in Ballybunion. Crowds of people from all the county and also from other parts of the countrycome to Ballybunion for that day.
