  1. People in the country made their own butter by means of a churn. They put the cream into the churn. There is a handle or staff in it about five or six feet in height. Then they moved the handle up and down until the butter is hard.
    The poor people made butter another way; by the means of a gallon. They put the cream into the gallon and put the cover on it. Then they shake it hither and over until the cream was hard.
