  1. There are two forges in Lixnaw parish. The two are Kerbys and Cantys. The two are situated on the of the road. The trade was in their families for many years. The forge is made only the roofing is made of tar barrels. There is a fire up on a little platform so that it may be blown by a bellows. There is a long handle in the bellows and when they want to blow it they rise it up and down. The implements the smith has are: a hammer, a sledge, an anvil, pinchers, a chisel.
