  1. In my district potatoes are set in April they are set in drills and a boarded plough is used to close them. The way to make the ridge is to close in the earth with the plough. They set common potatoes in the spring. They set early potatoes in the spring when people are busy. When people have "risen to" the potatoes they turn over a scraw there are potatoes which are called sciolláns. They put one potato at the side one in the middle and on the out side. Spades are not made here they are made in Listowel. All the neighbours pick the potatoes with the farmer. He has cars for drawing the potatoes into the pits. The pits are made with straw and hay. They pile them up in a heap and cover them
