  1. We never had a churn at home. The various parts of the churn are: The churn staff and the cover.
    Butter was made once a week. On a Thursday it was usually made. It is the woman of the house who makes the butter. It takes about two hours to do the churning. It is done by hand.
    The churn-dash is to be moved up and down with the person's hand. When the staff was getting hard to move, the butter was nearly made. In the summer cold water was poured in to keep the butter cool. In winter hot was poured in to keep the butter hot.
