“Brian succeeded to his brother in the government of Munster...”
Brian succeeded to his brother in the government of Munster; but he was not elevated to the royal prerogatives of King of Ireland till he was in his seventy sixth year. Maolsceachlainn, or Malaochai, in whose lien the royal power was hereditary, had in the former time of his life defeated the Northmen in tree great battles.
