  1. There was one forge in the village of Aughagower. The smithe's name was Paul Higgins. A lot of his people were smith's. The forge was in the old Graveyard it was near the road and near a stream. It was a fairly big forge. It had a thatched roof. There was one fireplace in it. There is a forge at present in Cordarragh. It belongs to Stantuns. The smith uses a hammer a sledge a pinchers an anvil a bellows and a rasp. He shoes horses and asses. He makes ploughs harrows gates pikes and axes. He shoes wheels in the open. Any old iron that people have they give them to the smith
